About The Incident
A 52-year-old businessman apparently committed suicide by jumping off the Atal Setu sea bridge connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, police said on Thursday.
This incident occurred on Wednesday, which marked the second suicide on the Atal Setu in a space of three days as a banker had ended his life in a similar manner, on Monday.
“The businessman, Philip Shah, ended his life by jumping off the Atal Setu on Wednesday morning. Shah, a resident of Matunga in central Mumbai, drove his sedan car on the Atal Setu, parked it at some point and jumped into the sea,” he said.
“Staff from the CCTV control room of the bridge noted that a car was parked on the bridge, following which a rescue team was alerted. Its personnel rushed to the spot from where Shah jumped into the sea. Following a search operation, they found him, he said.
He was rushed to a hospital, but declared dead on admission, the police official said.”.
He said that the identity of the deceased has been established on the basis of his Aadhaar card, which was found in the car and added that the victim appears to have been under mental stress in the last few days before his death.
The case was registered as an accidental death at the Nhava Sheva police station in Navi Mumbai, he said.

According to information, the senior inspector of the police told that Philip Hitesh Shah had gone out of his house around 8:00 am on October 2. He had called up his family and had told them that he is going to attend a function and promised to come back in some time. Investigation is going on, and a case of accidental death has been registered.
According to reports, the two people who committed suicide jumping off the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) were suffering from stress. In the case of Phillip Shah, the stress was caused by business problems, and in the case of Sushant Chakravarti, it was work-related.
On Wednesday morning around 9am, a businessman from Matunga in Mumbai parked his car on Atal Setu and jumped into the sea.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old banker Sushant Chakravarti who had jumped off the Atal Setu was washed up on the seashore on Tuesday.
Like Shah, Chakravarti, a deputy manager with a nationalised bank, parked his SUV on the bridge at Sewri and jumped into the sea on Monday morning.
The passerby alerted the authorities after which a search operation was launched.
Chakravarti’s wife also alleged he was under work pressure.
Chakravarti is survived by his wife and seven-year-old daughter, said the official.
A case of accidental death was registered, he said.
According to the Sewri police who is probing the case, Chakravarty arrived at the Atal Setu, the Navi Mumbai bond at around 9.57 am and parked his red-colour Maruti Brezza at the side before jumping off into the sea.
The CCTV footage caught the attention of the traffic police in the Atal Setu control room. But it was too late for them to reach him before Chakravarty jumped. They immediately alerted the Sewri police and emergency services, including the rescue team. During the search operation along the sea, the police found some documents in the car of Chakravarty. It states his name and contact details of his wife.
When contacted, Chakravarty’s wife reported to the police that he had left for his office at Hutatma Chowk that morning as he does every day. However, he had taken the family-that is, his wife and daughter-out for a Sunday getaway to Lonavala the previous day. During their time together, Chakravarty had, from time to time made complaints about his “increasing work pressure” and how it was aggravating his mental health situation, rendering him “helpless,” his wife revealed to the police in her statement.
